Ablution gives protection against eye diseases

Ablution for at least three times a day can help avoid Trachoma and number of other eye disease especially those which lead to blindness.

Muslims make ablution before offering prayers five times a day and they mostly remain protected from the eye diseases, says Coordinator National Program for prevention and control of blindness, Government of Pakistan Dr Asad Aslam.

He said that proper check-up and treatment can save 100,000 persons from blindness out of 1,500,000 who fall victim to the disease in Pakistan. As per last survey conducted on blindness in the year 2005 there were 1,500,000 persons facing the disease and 100,000 of them can yet be saved from the blindness, he added.

The Coordinator said that the government has launched the awareness campaign on blindness especially Glaucoma an eye disease in the country to protect the people.

The campaign is aimed at creating awareness among people that Glaucoma commonly known as – Kala Motia – is curable if diagnosed at an early stage and given proper care and cure to it.

Latest equipments and eye specialists have been made available at every district headquarters in the country for diagnosis and treatment of the eye diseases, he said. The government has planned to provide the same facilities at Tehsil Headquarters by the end of the current year, he added.

A seminar would be held on January 29 in Islamabad to create awareness on the eye diseases in which Prime Minister, health Minister and other high officials have been invited. All of these efforts are aimed at making the people aware that they should arrange regular check-up of their eyes specially for the children by the age of 5 years.

The eye check up should also be arranged for the children at the age of 10-12 years, he said adding and after the age of 40 years every person should arrange one or two check-ups every year.

Everyone copes with aging different ways.
